WELCOME BACK

Fall 2016

This semester you will create and maintain a blog. The blog will be home to your responses to class readings and discussions, examples of your projects, interesting links and whatever else you want to share with the class. For starters, look at this list I found on line. Think about it and make a list of the things you do to stay creative.

Once you have a list, try to represent these things in photographs. Take as many photographs as you need to so that you have 20-25 good images to work with in class. We will begin using Adobe Lightroom next class with these images, so you MUST have these ready to go. PLEASE SHOOT RAW FORMAT!

From class demo: Camera functions and settings that make a proper exposure.  Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO.
Here's the link I shared in class.

Names names names

Dan the man asked me about the names of the photographers we looked at in class the other week.  I'm not sure why he didn't take note or bookmark them, but here they are again.

Sandy Skoglund
Cindy Sherman
Sally Mann
Shelby Lee Adams
Francesca Woodman
Richard Avedon
Annie Lebowitz
Zoe Strauss
Nan Golden
Mary Ellen Mark

Please look at their work. I'm seeing way too many portraits where it doesn't look like you have thoroughly considered the lighting, the poses, the composition. The people you know photos should look different than the people you don't know because you have the time and the cooperation.
Good luck and reshoot if you think this note applies to you. I have given you a lot of time on this assignment, so I expect great things.

The self-portrait project is coming soon, so start shooting and reshooting and reshooting.

Put money on Papercut! Make sure it goes toward Photo!!!

Put two great black and white and two great color photos on your blog. Export from Lightroom as a JPG or take photo into Photoshop to resize and resave.

First Prints

The first shooting assignment that we will print will be based on taking photos around Philadelphia. Ten photos taken on campus and ten photos taken off campus. All photos must use available light. No artificial light. If people are in the photo they can not be an important part of the composition. Five must be in Black and White.
We will discuss printing details next week.
